Adding weight to paddles is 100% legal and compliant with USAP/UPA rules. Adding weight is not unique to pickleball and has been added to golf clubs and tennis racquets going back many years,
Weights on the perimeter increase edge density at various positions thereby increasing stability, sweet spot size and power. The position of the weights determines the type of benefit you could experience. Refer to diagram for details.
Benefits of adding weighted tape include: customised feel and swing weight (balance), larger sweet spot, increased power, increased stability, reduced mishits, and changes in hand speed. Optimal weight placement could result in eg. easier and better resets or faster drives.
